Accordion menu: click behaviour for parent items

Parent Item Click Behaviour

Accordion Menus respect the “Click Event Behaviour” option, found on the Advanced tab of the menu location settings (Mega Menu > Menu Locations). When clicking a parent menu item you have three choices:

  • First click will open the sub menu, second click will close the sub menu.
  • First click will open the sub menu, second click will follow the link.
  • First click will follow the link (the arrow must be used to toggle sub menu visibility).

Making Parent Menu Item Clickable

If you want to be able to click the parent item and go straight to that page (without first opening the sub menu), set the “Click Event Behaviour” to “First click will follow the link (the arrow must be used to toggle sub menu visibility)”. Visitors can then use the arrow to open and close the sub menu.

We also recommend setting the “Accordion Behaviour” option on the Desktop tab of the menu location settings to “Expand active sub menus”, so the sub menu for the current page is open when the page loads.
